More Than This by Jay McLean

The first thing I must say is that this is NOT a book for everyone. Truthfully, I though I was reading a 12 year old writing a story about sex and love (#sorrynotsorry). There are a lot of things wrong with this story, the plot and the characters. I must admit though, that I finished reading it because as most girls around the world we sometimes want to believe that a love so fake is actually possible. That there is actually going to be a white knight for us, and after reading more mature and better written books I must admit that what this author is trying to transmit is the fairytale-impossible cliche love story that people want.

Mikayla is the typical teenager in love with her 4 year jock boyfriend James. Mikayla also has a best friend who is perfect and blonde and everyone loves her. Mikayla is always her shadow and she is always known as the "Friend" or the "Girlfriend". The night of her prom, she catches her boyfriend and her best friend in a very compromising position. The asshole boyfriend says she loves her and all that stuff, the best friend gets angry and leaves. Throughout the mess, a very cute and non pervy guy at all is watching the fight. Jake is introduced, and after a night of talking Mikayla goes to his prom instead of her (what?).

She meets with Jake's friends and guess what? They are all magically going to the same college, because that happens in the real world right? Totally. After a great night with random people Jake takes Mikayla home and the police are everywhere. Mikayla learns that all of her family have been murdered. Jake comes to the rescue and takes her to his house where she is loved by the family and they even built her room in their house. (What?)

The story continues with Jake and Mikayla having a real weird sexual tension, but they never kiss until the last pages of the book. Also Mikayla apparently never had an orgasm with James but Jake gives her one dry humping. (What?)

“Because if I kiss you, then I'll want to taste you, and if I taste you then I'll need to fuck you. And if I fuck you, that means your mine. And when I make you mine, I want it to be in OUR bed. Not in a hotel room...Is that okay?”

They go to college together and their is at least 10 scenes of both of them getting extremely angry at each other because they talked to a guy or a girl and they got jealous. I mean I get once or twice but the trust issues in this book gets annoying after the 5th time they fight about the same thing.

I am not going to lie and say that I hated the book because I didn't. I am just simply tired of authors writing like love was so easy and out there. Then they try to make a relationship go all wrong, but they do it in the most non realistic ways. At the same time they write about sex and kissing people like if it where magic and that the world will collide when the two bodies align. This is not true at all, I do like readers that try to make these things seem more romantic and that when it is the one you will realize it and I love that, but sometimes authors make it too fake and end up having a really forced relationship with a lot of forced conversations.

“The very first kiss with your Prince will change your life. When your lips touch for the first time, the earth will feel like it stops moving, but in the same moment, the world around you spins. It’ll feel like fireworks in the night sky. Like a bright light in the darkness. You’ll feel your heart beat fast in your ears but silence will surround you. And when you pull apart and open your eyes and look at each other, and really see each other. You’ll know it in that moment, through that kiss, that you’ve just let someone own a piece of your heart, and you’ll live happily ever after.”

I did enjoy many parts of the story, I did love Jake and found myself swooning over him. Who wouldn't? He was perfect, sweet, hot and kind. In reality, there won't be a magic knight that will come in and sweep you in. If you are into cliche love stories read it, it is cute and fluffy. If you are into more tragic and deep books, stop and don't read it will simply make you angry.
