Kaleidoscope Hearts by Claire Contreras

“The hearts I make are shattered, but whole. They’re kaleidoscopes that beam under the sun. They signify hope in love when you’ve lost it because, like love, you can look at a kaleidoscope a thousand different ways and find something new every time. Shattered or not, if you look carefully enough, you’ll find something beautiful in them, and all beautiful things are a little broken.”

I had to calm myself and all my feels before writing a coherent review about this book. I can say I completely judged this book by its cover, I mean its beautiful. I fell in love from the first sentence. I must admit, Claire Contreras, you have become one of my favorite authors. The way she expresses love and feelings, God it touched me.

The story is about second chances and love. I simply fell in love with all the characters. It may be cliche in some parts but Claire Contreras has a way of writing that I would describe as completely magical. There was a part of me that wanted to finish the book in a day, and I could, but another part of me wanted Oliver and Elle's story to never end. I paced myself in order for me to listen to Contrera's writing. I think, along with Colleen Hoover, Contreras has made me adore these kind of books. I was kind of tired of reading the same cliche love story, but this one is beautiful.

The story narrates the story of Oliver and Elle. Elle is Oliver's best friend's sister, therefore she is out of bounds. However, that doesn't stop them from falling in love and meeting in secret. Cliche? Yup. Then all of a sudden they have sex and Oliver leaves, a year later Elle is engaged and to be married with an artsy guy called Wyatt. The fiancee dies, leaving Elle heartbroken and Oliver desperate to see her and win her back. The story follows Elle's heartbreak and her attraction to Oliver, it is told in the present with snippets of their past narrated by Oliver.

Oliver. Bean. I have no words for his character. I felt I was Elle and that Oliver was talking directly at me. I imagined his dimples and his beautiful eyes and simply fell in love just as Elle fell in love. I felt I was part of their story, and I cried, and I laughed, and I smirked at my computer falling for them. The next day, I couldn't stop talking about Oliver. I got it bad for him I do.

“She made me see hope in things I didn’t know existed. That was when she truly became my Estelle.”

I think this love story allowed me to visualize my life leaving with someone who adores me that much. I believe in second chances and consider myself to be a hopeless romantic. I adored this story and I simply wish it was a true story and could actually live through Elle's and Oliver's love story. I loved them, and I loved all the story.

I think I say Love to many times in this review, I am fangirling even days after I finished reading the story.

“He taught me what it feels like to be touched and thoroughly kissed. Later, he taught me the level of pain one feels at the loss of someone you’ve grown attached to. The one thing he forgot to teach me was how to deal with the pain that squeezed my chest after he broke the ghost of what heart I had left”

--5 stars-- (One of the easiest I have given this year)
