Cloaked by Alex Flinn
I did not enjoy this. Not one single bit. I found myself wanting to mark this book as DNF, but I really really wanted to finish it. I continued the story hoping it would get better, but to my luck it did not. The story is about Johnny, a poor kid whose family owns a shoe-fixing place. His life is all boring until one day a princess called Victoriana invites him on a quest to find her brother Phillipe which has been turned into a frog. In the quest he has to do a million other missions and those missions just confused and bored me. I understand that the author was trying to add many fables and that part was cool, but it seemed a bit over the top for me.
I do like retellings and I love magic, but this story didn't do it for me. I didn't like Johnny at all. I didn't like Meg either. Johnny is so stupid and ignorant. I mean Meg tells him she liked him like a thousand times in the book and Johnny is still thinking about pregnant birds. I think everything in the story just kind of appeared, I didn't notice a fluidity of it. It was like BAM and this happened and BAM this happened again. The book left me dizzy.
I HATED every time Johnny talked about the princess. Her hotness, her hotness, her hotness, it like the main focus of the story. She is so pretty and rich and blah blah blah. I also did not like the "ze." I know they were trying to imitate the way the princess talked, but it just annoyed me. I also did not like Johnny's ramblings. They go on and on. He talks about shoes, gives quotes about shoes, who do I like, who do I have to help now. There was nothing interesting in the book for me.
It was funny sometimes, but it only lasted for like the first chapters because the story went decaying and decaying.
