Review: A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas
“You were born on the longest night of the year.” His fingers again stroked down my back. Lower. “You were meant to be at my side from the very beginning”
Name: A Court of Frost and Starlight
Author: Sarah J Maas
Series: Book 3.1 of the Court of Thorns and Roses Series
Genre: Romance, Adult, Fantasy
A Court of Frost and Starlight is a cute short novella for all those lovers of ACOTAR who missed their favorite characters. It doesn't have much action or plot, however it is very character driven. Be prepared for a slow read that is very thick with descriptions of Velaris yet is rich in characterization.
I have read mixed reviews about this one. Many saying that it didn't add or take away anything from the story, which is true. Yet I don't think the point of the novella was to add any key elements of plot to the thrilling adventure. In my opinion, the goal of the novella was to add scenery and descriptions to both our settings and the mood, as well as form stronger skills for the characters. We see the characters and their development with each other, in ways that we don't see in other books as they are filled with war or action. Since this novella has a lot of idle time where they're preparing for the Solstice, it just allows for us to picture our favorite togethers and how they act away from the threats.
“Dangerous words, Rhysand,” Amren warned, strutting through the door, nearly swallowed up by the enormous white fur coat she wore. Only her chin-length dark hair and solid silver eyes were visible above the collar. She looked— “You look like an angry snowball,” Cassian said.”
The reason why I won't give this book the complete 5 stars is because I was disappointed in the fact that Feyre is not pregnant. I am aware they hint at Rhysand and her not using contraceptives anymore, but I had this awesome feeling that she was going to become pregnant and we were going to see this side to them. It didn't happen and I just hope we at least get a glimpse, scratch that I don't want just an epilogue with Rhysand, Feyre and kids. I want time to connect with them as parents as well. Another aspect that still hurts me is Tamlin, I know more books are coming. However, I do know they will be probably be in Nesta's POV which means that Tamlin's issues will never be resolved and that worries me. However, Maas decides to complete the series I trust her but I am scared that Tamlin will never get the resolution he deserves. As he was a tool and he was stupid, he also did it for love and it erupted on him terribly but all in all I do want him to have a happy ending and forget the drama that unfolded between them all.
“My mate—who had worked so hard and so selflessly, all without hope that I would ever be with him. We had both fought for that love, bled for it. Rhys had died for it.”
