Review: Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
“I like the night. Without the dark, we'd never see the stars.”
Author: Stephanie Meyer
Type: Book 1 of the Twilight Series
Genre: Young Adult, Romance, Fantasy, Paranormal
As a teenager I would devour this book over and over again. As a 22 year old, I opened Twilight thinking that my mind might be too old for the angst and teenage drama I remembered from this book. However, I was very surprised with how much I loved it. I was surprise that the butterflies I felt when I was young, resurfaced. As if after a long period of time, I was simply coming home again. Twilight for me was a big deal. Although the book is highly criticized, it basically was my starting point in the world of books. After Twilight, I read Divergent and Hunger Games. I opened myself to more genres like romance and fantasy. I started discovering how fast I could read, and most importantly I feel connected to my passion. Of course almost 8 years later I was a little hesitant that these feelings wouldn't be there. And like your favorite blanket that now is a little rusty and not that cute, I was petrified of the idea of hating my favorite book.
Thankfully this did not happen at all. Yes, after reading many other Fantasy and Vampire books I see the points that were too childish, a little bit sexist. However, I loved it all maybe just as much as I did the first time I read it. Meyer made these characters come alive, as well as the movies created a huge franchise of such a story. And no matter how much it was critiqued, it still is a big deal. It was one of the first books and movies that engrossed such a large fandom and introduced so many people to the world of books, and just for that no matter what points are said in regards to the writing, makes this a wonderful book.
Twilight is still as important to me as it was when I was 14. It will always have a very special place in my mind and heart. It was incredible to see my favorite characters come alive again and reimagine all the scenes I had forgotten. I cannot wait to continue re reading this series in preparation for Midnight Sun and see what other surprises are in store for me.
“And so the lion fell in love with the lamb…" he murmured. I looked away, hiding my eyes as I thrilled to the word. "What a stupid lamb," I sighed. "What a sick, masochistic lion.”
