The Air He Breathes by Brittainy C. Cherry

“Sometimes tomorrow never comes and you're only left with the memories of yesterdays.”

If you are up for a painful read, I suggest you grab the tissues and get prepared for a tearjerking plot. The author sweeps up your feet and plunges you into the lives of two people, lives that have gone through some of the worst pain imaginable and page by page you are allowed to observe the beautiful reconstruction of their souls.

Elizabeth and Tristan were not meant to meet, but when they did it wasn't very nice. Elizabeth ran over Tristan's dog, and while trying to be nice to him by taking the dog to the vet and offering to pay all the doctors Tristan was still cold hearted. Not only was he the cold hearted guy she ran over his dog with, but he was also her new neighbor. Elizabeth stuck in her head to make Tristan's walls fall, to allow him to let her in. Elizabeth and Tristan both had lost very important people in their lives, Elizabeth losing her husband and Tristan losing both his wife and his son. Both in grief they start gravitating towards each other, but the pain of the past doesn't allow them to look for a brighter future.

The story is not what you expect, the plot twists that are thrown at you in the middle of the story and towards the big ending leave you on your tails throughout the whole plot. The characters are beautifully written, painfully written too. Seeing the process of both of our grief stricken characters and how they are trying with all their heart to get over or move past the death of their loved ones is incredible.

Tristan broke my heart so many times, his pain was more palpable and it hurt every time he would remember his wife or most specially his son. It would hurt to see him play or be a good father figure to Elizabeth's daughter and catch glimpses of the dad he used to be for his own son. That killed me over and over again.

“No soulmate leaves the world alone; they always take a piece of their other half along with them.”

The mystery of the story was also very unexpected, you really don't see a big mystery occurring in love stories. However, this one had a wonderful mix of romance, angst and the uncovering of what really happened the night of the accident that ruined both Tristan and Elizabeth's lives.

I really cannot wait to continue reading the Elements series, and see where our author takes us next.
