Review: Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas

“ the rest of the world quieted into nothing. In that moment, after ten long years, Celaena looked at Chaol and realized she was home ”

Title: Crown of Midnight

Author: Sarah J Maas

Series: Book 2 of Throne of Glass Series

Genres: Romance, Young Adult, Fantasy, Magic, Paranormal

I knew this series was going to break me, nevertheless I did not know it was going to break me so soon. I am a firm believer that second books in series kind of suck most of the time. Hence, when starting Crown of Midnight my expectations for greatness were kept at a minimum. I was so surprised to know that this is NOT a "filler" book. This is more intense than the first one and it is completely full of adventure and surprises. We start off where we left off. Celaena is now the King's Champion and her role is to assassinate those who bother the King. However, our heroine is not doing that. She goes out of her way to warn these "enemies to the crown" and tell them to leave forever. She then brings the King a discarded corpse as proof.

The story continues as Celaena is trying to uncover what evil is the King actually using to become so powerful. As Queen Elena told her she needs to take matters into her hands and find out what or who is this man's plan. However, the story is much more than that. In this sequel we find out a lot of information about Celaena's past and who she really is. Trust me it will shock you. Many sad things also happen in this story and we get to see a lot of development in Doria's side.

As per the love "triangle". Yes, we get to see more of Chaol and Celaena finally. I am aware that many people in this fandom hate Chaol, I don't know why just yet and I can see something big will come their way because they are literally supposed to be mortal enemies. However, I really enjoyed their love scenes. I found them to be sweet and in a way I honestly distrust Chaol. I loved Dorian since the very beginning and felt it was very brave and loving of him to let go of his love for the assassin, knowing that Chaol was in love with her too. I think Chaol is very in his head about his ideals and rules that he annoyed me 75% of the time. I am not rooting for them no matter how cute he sometimes can be or how he sometimes allows me to have goosebumps for him. Dorian is just special to me and I have no clue as to why I have such an affinity for him, but I see so much potential in that relationship that I am wishing so bad it gets to be explored more.

Now, I have so many questions!!!! Be aware of spoilers below. I know something big is coming when Celaena told both Dorian and Chaol similar things before she parts to the other city. Something about the words she tells them just sounded so much like a foreshadowing of sorts and I JUST can't wait to start reading the next one. I also am very upset that they almost killed my precious Fleetfoot. And I have to admit that I found out who Celaena truly was a few minutes before reading it because I started googling the series. One thing I will never do again as I feel that a big spoiler comes later in the series and I really don't want to ruin this experience for me.
