Review: Her Dark Lies by J.T. Ellison

“We all want to be remembered for something. We have children, we paint, we write, we fight, we conquer. We leave behind marks on the fabric of humanity, and while some are content to stay in the background, some of us want to make those marks as vivid and overwhelming as possible. We don't just want to be remembered. We want to be unforgettable.”

Title: Her Dark Lies

Author: JT Ellison

Type: Standalone

Genres: Adult, Romance, Mystery, Thriller, Crime

One of my favorite things about this book is the point of view changes and how the author created an atmospheric vibe due to the different voices. We get Claire's 1st person POV, which is great because we get to see the whole drama unfold through her eyes. However, the author created also a 3rd person narrator who tells us more about the other interesting characters that are being murdered at Claire's almost husband's house. Lastly, we get a 2nd person POV on the murdered. Hence, it was so cool to see that while Claire uncovered the mystery and who the murderer was, we also got the same insights by being in the killers mind.

Her Dark Lies' setting was also a big thing that drove the story and added to the whole mysterious vibe that the author was so cleverly able to achieve. The story is mostly set in Italy as Claire sets to marry her fiancé, who happens to be heir and son of one of the most influential families in the United States. However this family is keen to their secrets and by joining them Claire also has to set to follow their rules and keep their secrets, but she has secrets too and will the family be willing to keep them for her as well?

This has been by far one of my most favorite thrillers I have read both this year and in general. It really did read super quickly and the writing kept me on my toes and excited for the story and the unraveling. I also find the setting mixed in with the writing to allow the story to become creepy and a little bit haunting, I love haunting stories and voices so this was definitely a hit for me.
